Shooting Public Storage:

Often times, as Architectural Photographers, we will get an assignment to photograph the ordinary. Still, we want the compositions to be clean and interesting for the client.  Such is the case with this Chicagoland Public Storage, which was photographed for the builder.  Below are some favorites.

The Ones We Didn't Use:

Here are a few from a favorite shoot of ours from a few years back.  These are shots that we actually didn’t use, but are too good to not to share.  For those interested, they were shot with a Sony A850, using a 20mm Rokkor lens, with lens correction software.  To see more of our work, please visit our website. www.normansizemore.com

Contemporary Master Suite:

In a flashback mood today, we are spotlighting a contemporary master suite by Benvenuti and Stein.  This space was so unique for a master suite, curved walls, back lit stone, it’s has a very gallery appeal to it.  Too hard to pick my favorites.  Here is the shoot.

Shot on Film - Chris:

We came across some old film scans a while back and thought we would share these in our ‘Shot on Film’ series.  This is Chris, in our studio back in 2002.  We did several sets with Chris.  She was wonderful to work with.  Chris actually worked in a photo studio, and had definite ideas about the various looks she was going for.  Here are actually three tests shots, that are among my favorites.  Studio lighting was by Photogenic Machine Studio Master Its, shot through a Larson soft box and into a 48” reflector.

The color film was Fuji G, and the black and white was Kodak T-Max.  All the shots were done using a Minolta X570 with a Rokkor 50mm 1.7 lens.  This film was scanned using a Minolta DiMage 5400 dedicated film scanner.

Four Seasons Room and Deck Addition:

It takes a special builder to construct a ‘home.’ That’s what the resident of this Northern Illinois house told me as we set up to photograph the exterior. Orren Pickell built the house years ago, and it has since become a true home for the family, their children, and grandchildren. Over time, as the family’s needs evolved, the home was expanded. Yet, true to the craft of an outstanding builder, you would never know additions had been made—the seamless quality is remarkable.

Nestled in a secluded, private neighborhood, the house is surrounded by lush plants and towering trees, creating a serene backdrop. Our primary focus during the shoot was the walkway, deck area, and the four seasons room—spaces that beautifully blend indoor comfort with the outdoors.

Here are some favorite images from the shoot that capture the timeless elegance and intimate feel of this exceptional home.
