Historic Remodel: Foyer:

This historic home remodeled by Jerry Dardick of JMD Builders with interior design by Tom Stringer, stands out as one of our all time favorite photoshoots.  The beautiful foyer was featured in several midwest design magazines.  JMD’s craftsman restored this home to its former glory with eloquence and grace.  Everyroom was meticulously reconstructed and brought up to date with state-of-the-art technology and appliances.  The custom interior design just justice to the outstanding original architecture.   Here we are showing the stunning foyer and powder room.

Michigan Mid Century Exterior:

We loved this Michigan mid century home.  Fully remodeled interior with high-end interior design by Jennifer Butler.  She also worked her magic on the exterior.  In ground hot tub, outdoor fire place with custom outdoor furniture and a gather space to enjoy a meal with family and friends.  The grounds included a stepping stone path to flowering garden.  More to come.

Mid Century Home Theater:

Jennifer Butler’s team did an incredible job on this mid-century home. Modest in size, she managed to squeeze usable space from every room. In the lower level, where ceiling height was a limitation, Jennifer had her craftsman dig out and lower the floor, achieving a standard eight-foot ceiling throughout and transforming the feel and functionality of the space.

Beyond that structural move, walls were shifted and the layout was reworked to maximize flow and utility. The result: a proper family room, a dedicated wine cellar, a well-appointed office, a full bath, and a comfortable home theater—each area feeling deliberately designed and perfectly scaled to the house.

The home is impressive and the space is incredible. More to come.

Four Seasons Getaway:

The home is the definition of getting away from it all. Deep in the Michigan woods, it offers privacy, peace, and an intimate connection with nature — and above all, comfort.

Masterfully constructed to function entirely off the grid, the house allows for complete seclusion while remaining purposeful and sophisticated. It sits in the landscape as if it belonged there from the start: materials, lines, and scale all echo the surrounding forest so the building feels less like an intrusion and more like a careful continuation of place.

Large, strategically placed windows invite the outdoors in. In autumn they frame a cascade of color and falling leaves; on frosted mornings or during a heavy winter snowfall they become silent portals to a world hushed and refined; in spring they reveal the slow, luminous awakening of bud and bloom. Every window is an invitation to slow down, to listen, to look.

Inside, comfort is never sacrificed for aesthetic. Warm natural materials, considered proportions, and an orientation that privileges views and daylight create interiors that read as living sanctuaries. The home’s systems, thoughtfully integrated, support independence without compromising the experience — solar, water management, and efficient mechanicals coexist with beautiful finishes and meticulous detailing.

This is a place for long mornings with light poured across wooden floors, for evenings spent near a fire with the layered sounds of the forest beyond, for the kind of solitude that restores. I can’t imagine a season here that wouldn’t be magnetic.

Poolside Retreat:

Stunning contemporary home by Schmidke Builders in Sawyer, Michigan. The private wooded lot creates a genuine retreat — a peaceful escape from the daily Chicago hustle.

Here we captured the rear of the home and the inviting poolside, designed for lounging, entertaining, or a calm outdoor nap. Clean contemporary lines contrast nicely with the natural surroundings.  The outdoor fireplace provides a warm, intimate gathering area when the evening chill sets in.  Perfect for cozying up with a book and a cup of hot chocolate.

Morning Shots: Hotel Interior:

When we receive an assignment to photograph a hotel interior, the perfect time is at dawn.

The sky still holds the tail of evening, lending that deep cobalt blue just before sunrise. That light is unique — cool, even, and forgiving — and it wraps the space in a way artificial light cannot replicate. It adds depth to glass, richness to textiles, and a quiet atmosphere that reads as both restful and sophisticated.

Dawn also brings practical advantages. Housekeeping and operations have finished their preparations and the hotel is at its calmest. Surfaces are immaculate, public areas are staged, and staff are in place to assist without the pressure of arriving guests. This window lets me capture clean, composed images that feel intentional rather than interrupted.

These shots are from a Hilton in Houston, Texas. You’ll notice the balanced exposure between interior color accents and the cool exterior sky, careful use of perspective to emphasize volume. More to come.

Lovely Family Room:

This lovely family room was part of a whole-house transformation by interior designer Jennifer Butler. We loved the transitional aesthetic and especially the wonderful bar area — it’s perfectly suited for entertaining. The open floorplan flows effortlessly from the family room to the kitchen and dining room, creating a cohesive, welcoming space.

It’s an outstanding design and one we thoroughly enjoyed photographing. More to come.

Gleason Architects Historic Restoration:

We received an assignment a couple of years back from Gleason Architects to photograph a restoration project they had spent years bringing back to life. The building had been abandoned and in gross disrepair; their before photos read like evidence of demolition rather than a blueprint for recovery. Every surface was deteriorated, every detail missing or marred.

What Gleason delivered was meticulous work—restoration carried out with an almost forensic attention to materials, proportions, and historic craft. They rebuilt moldings and windows were reconstructed to match original profiles while meeting modern performance standards. Where brick and stone had suffered, replacements were carefully matched and integrated. The result was not a replica but a faithful continuation of the building’s original design and character.

Photographing the project meant showing that transformation without erasing the story of what came before. My images aimed to reveal the clarity of the restored details: the crisp geometry of cornices, the refined texture of new lime plaster, and the way restored light moved through the spaces. I focused on perspectives that conveyed both the scale of the effort and the quiet perfection of the finished work.
