Contemporay Dining Room: Chicago:

We photographed this contemporary Chicago residence — a custom build already featured in several North Shore publications — here we focus on its exceptional dining room. The room centers on a large bespoke dining table by Steve Koch, whose clean lines and rich materiality anchor the space and invite gatherings. Surrounding the table, stellar built-in shelving displays a curated collection of fine art and rare literature, creating an intimate library-gallery hybrid that reads both cultivated and lived-in.

Large gallery framed photographic prints, from the Chicago Koppel Gallery heightens the gallery-like atmosphere, contrasting the colorful canvas on the opposing wall, providing scale and a visual counterpoint to the table and shelving. Thoughtful lighting and material choices throughout the dining room reinforce the home’s refined modern aesthetic while emphasizing texture and craft.

Feels Like Summer -

Okay, it’s February 18th, and 64 degrees in Chicago, so this is what’s on our mind today.

Spring light arriving early

  • The quality of light is shifting — warmer, softer afternoons and longer golden hours. It’s changing how interiors read on camera: highlights are gentler, shadows less harsh, and textures (wood grain, plaster, fabrics) reveal more nuance.
  • For architects and designers, this is a great moment to schedule captures that emphasize material warmth and natural contrast rather than relying solely on artificial light setups.

If you’re considering a shoot, now is a strong window for images that feel fresh, warm, and editorial without being overtly seasonal. We’re booking now for  limited spring and summer openings.  www.normansizemore.com

Contemporary Lower Level:

We photographed this exceptional contemporary home and this awesome lower level for Michelle’s Interiors and Orren Pickell Builders — a space designed for effortless entertaining and everyday living. Open, layered, and thoughtfully detailed, it invites you to linger.

Sit in the bespoke swivel chairs with a glass of wine and jazz filling the room while you admire the extensive wine collection. Watch the game from the custom bar or a large-screen TV with a cold beer in hand. Let the kids enjoy a movie in the dedicated theater area while you cozy up by the fire with your favorite cocktail. Challenge friends to a round of shuffleboard, or simply soak in the atmosphere: the flow is generous, the sightlines engaging, the finishes impeccable.

Our favorite moment? The saltwater shark tank — a dramatic, unexpected centerpiece that both surprises and delights. Below are a few favorites from this project, capturing the warmth, scale, and playful details that make this home so memorable. Shooting The Grill:

Often when we’re assigned to photograph a hotel lobby, we focus on the smaller scenes that give the space character: the snack shop, the newsstand, the lounge, or — in this case — a recently updated grill. We were drawn to the overhead soffit, the enclosed rail with barstools, and the gently curved counter. It’s the perfect place to belly up for a burger and shake.

A couple of favorites from the shoot are below.   To see more of our work or to schedule a photoshoot please visit our website.  www.normansizemore.com

Corporate Break Room & Private Confernece Room:

We’re on an office break room theme here and thought we could include this one. This space is perfectly positioned for easy access from every corner of a stunning office setting. It offers a private conference room with an adjoining bar, plus a full kitchen designed for quick lunches or informal meetings. Every element was custom-built for the space and finished with care, combining functionality with refined material choices.

Favorites from the shoot:

  • The private conference room: intimate scale, warm finishes, and integrated AV that keep the space both comfortable and highly usable.

  • The private bar: curated detailing that make it feel like an elevated hospitality touch within a workplace.

  • The full kitchen: efficient layout, premium appliances, and durable surfaces that read as both practical and elegant for everyday use.

This break room proves that thoughtful design can transform a workplace amenity into a destination—functional, stylish, and distinctly custom.

Remodeled Company Break Room:

We were assigned to photograph a completely remodeled paint factory, and a key part of the shoot was the expansive company lunch and break room. The ceiling was opened up to reveal large wood arched trusses left exposed, giving the space an airy, industrial warmth that reads both modern and authentic. The original concrete floor was retained, sanded, stained, and finished to a high gloss—its subtle patina and reflective surface anchoring the room with texture and character. Custom counters and durable tables and chairs complete the composition, balancing functionality with refined materiality. More to come.

Commercial Paper Laboratory Interior:

These images are from a newly constructed paper testing laboratory. The lab relied on Key Interiors to design purpose-built test benches, room dividers, and custom counters that meet the precise workflow and durability requirements of a lab environment. Clean lines, durable surfaces, and thoughtful spatial planning keep testing stations organized and accessible while maintaining the sterile conditions such work demands.

Commercial design/build firms aren’t always top of mind for specialized lab projects, but this installation highlights their value: integrated design, coordinated fabrication, and on-site installation delivered a turnkey solution tailored to the client’s technical needs. Thoughtful material choices and exacting joinery ensure long-term performance and ease of maintenance—critical for high-use testing facilities.  More to come.

Luxury Powder Rooms:

Closing out the night with a few more luxury powder rooms.  Photographing such a small space can often be a challenge, which is why we are always certain to bring a wide architectural lens with tilt shift capabilities with us.  Doing so, really allows us to create a composition that will capture the full scope of such small rooms.  Some favorites form a luxury build by JMD in Chicago.  More to come.  To see more of our work or to schedule a photoshoot please visit our website. www.normansizemore.com

Bespoke Guest Bath:

Good interior designers can work magic with almost any space. Bathrooms are often among the first rooms they’re asked to tackle — compact, functional, and ripe for transformation. This high-end Chicago condo was completely remodeled with the collaboration of a thoughtful architect and interior designer. The guest powder room, designed by Lenore Weiss, embodies that careful balance of form and function.

Highlights include a double granite vanity that reads both luxurious and durable, bespoke cabinetry tailored to the room’s proportions, and a generously sized walk-in shower that elevates the guest experience. Materials and detailing were chosen for longevity, giving the space a timeless quality that will remain stylish and current for years to come.  We are going to highlight a couple of more baths for this luxury space.   To see more of our work, or to schedule a photoshoot please visit our website. www.normansizemore.com

Commercail Financial Office:

A recent photoshoot of a commercial financial office build-out. The architect asked us to emphasize the conference room, bullpen, and private offices — we made those the focal points while also capturing the smaller moments that complete the workplace: private phone booths for focused calls and a compact coffee bar for quick breaks. Some favorites below.

Conference room

  • Clean lines and material contrast take center stage here. We highlighted the natural light patterns, and the table’s scale to convey both formality and collaboration.

Bullpen

  • A bright, flexible bullpen with defined zones for heads-down work and informal collaboration. Shots focus on sightlines, ergonomic furnishings, and the rhythm of open-plan desks.

Private offices

  • Intimate, detail-forward images that show how thoughtful design supports focused work — layered lighting, neutral wall finishes, and a balance of privacy and connection to the rest of the floor.

Private phone booths

  • Tight, moody frames to showcase acoustical design and comfortable finishes that make quick calls feel private and intentional.

Coffee bar

  • For a pause between meetings: warm materials, streamlined storage, and the small rituals that sustain office energy.

Selected images below demonstrate how the architecture and interiors work together to support a financial firm’s needs: clarity, efficiency, and moments of respite. For full galleries or licensing, get in touch.
