Engage Creative Assignment:

Several years ago, we received a call from Engage Creative to photograph some historic Chicago apartment buildings. At the time, I wasn’t sure what to expect and wondered why anyone would want to showcase buildings constructed before 1945. That perspective changed the moment I saw them.

Each building was in superb condition—clean, meticulously maintained, with tasteful landscaping that enhanced their charm. The owner had clearly spared no expense in keeping both the exterior and interior in pristine condition. Inside, these apartments are as modern and functional as anything newly built today, yet they effortlessly retain their original character.

High ceilings, real hardwood floors throughout, thick solid plaster walls, and heavy six-panel doors create an atmosphere that’s impossible to replicate in contemporary construction. Nearly every detail in these buildings is period correct, restored carefully to like-new condition. The blend of historic character and modern functionality was truly inspiring.

Below are some exterior shots from the shoot, capturing the timeless elegance of these beautifully preserved apartment buildings.
